Jan 08, Daybreakers Wrap
Kanuka Studio were pleased to have the opportunity to handle several ambitious visual effects which help tell some of the more fantastic elements of the story in the latest feature film by directors Peter and Michael Speirig. Plot Summary: In the year 2017, a plague has transformed almost every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind. Rangi Sutton acted as VFX Supervisor for the three sequences awarded to Kanuka Studio, working closely with Kanuka producer Jamie Robertson and the Brisbane based directors through pre-production, on set and during post-production. The crew of local artists compromised two VFX Technical Directors (Robert Kelly, Allan McKay), two 3D Artist/Animators (Daniel Phillis, DJ Nicke) and two Compositng Artists (Loren Robinson, Alicia Aguilera), with the four months of vfx production co-ordinated by Kirsty Martin. Daniel Mons acted as system administrator, expanding the computer infrastructure to handle the demands of feature film. Images and shot breakdowns of the completed work can't be shown until the films release which is expected in the second half of '09. "I can't wait to show the world what this talented crew has produced. " Rangi said, "I think we've created some really spectacular work, showing you don't need to be a huge hollywood factory to push the boundaries on the big screen."
